Yesterday when I met with my favorite San Diego Emergency Dentist, Dr. Steven Byers,  I showed him my flight simulator application on my eyePad.  I told him how I have been practice simulated flights taking off from Catalina Island and landing in Los Angeles, and even demonstrated my ability to land in Catalina.

Dr Byers is an awesome pilot and has taken my flying multiple times in a number of his planes.  He suggested that we fly to Catalina and have lunch there next Friday, weather permitting of course. I couldn’t be more excited about the suggestion!

Every object that we use in our daily lives was designed. From the moment we get up in the morning to the time we fall asleep we are using objects that were designed by someone. Among many jobs of a designer is to improve the daily use of things without people realizing that fact.

Good design is:

  • Interactive
  • Aesthetic
  • Understandable
  • Honest and Unobtrusive
  • “Good design is as little design as possible”

Jonathan Ive, Apples lead industrial designer, said that the best design is undesigned. It is the ability to take away until the object is so simple that you could not have imagined it any other way.

In the future the tools to design and make everyday objects will be available to everybody.
